A Thing Of Beauty

Men appreciate beauty. Beauty in a woman, beauty in a sports car.

Men are known for their eyes being captivated by things of beauty. Why is this?

Well, God created man that way. Deep inside man is a need to see and experience beauty. Sure, sex is on the mind of every warm blooded male but the need to see beauty is on their heart. It may be hard to admit or even recognize… but it’s there.

God put it there.

It reveals our need for God. A need to be connected to the source of that beauty, it’s Creator.

Take a look around, you may have to leave to the city to see it but the beauty of God is demonstrated all around you. Sunrises, sunsets, the Rocky mountains, the Pacific ocean. All throughout creation God’s beauty and power is demonstrated to reveal Himself to mankind. It reminds us that He is there and should also remind us of who we are… created beings, made in the image and likeness of God.

Paul says in Romans that this beauty in creation is irrefutable evidence of the existence of God. And because He made His existence known to us, there is no excuse to reject Him.

  • For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. – Romans 1:20

But because of sin man is fallen and we now turn things of created beauty into objects of worship. In other words, we end up worshipping women and sports cars rather than the God who created them. Well, people create sports cars but God created man… you get the idea.

That is why we need Jesus.

God sent His Son to restore our relationship with Him. Our need to see beauty is satisfied in Him and He knows this, it is how He created us! We are all designed for a relationship with God but sin destroyed that relationship.

That is, until Jesus.

Now because of Christ, His righteousness becomes my righteousness. Not because it is my own, but because Christ lives in me. It is called ‘Imputation’. Essentially what I could not do God did on my behalf and because of Jesus He now stands in the gap to reconnect me with God. It is all because of Jesus.

His righteousness becomes my righteousness, but it is ‘imputed’ meaning it is not my own but His.

The Father looks at the repentant sinner and see His child because He sees His Son. It is Jesus in you that saves you, it is His righteousness that saves you, it is His blood that saves you.

And that salvation restores your relationship with God.

God gives it freely because you could not do it on your own and because of this no one can boast. It is the most humbling, amazing, satisfying truth on earth because God is on the end of it.

  • For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9

Men, you like beauty?

Good!

Now turn your eyes to Jesus and find the source of what you’re searching for.
