Daytona International Speedway is one of the most recognized race tracks among racing enthusiast.

A win at Daytona is coveted by everyone who has taken to the 2.5 mile surface. Race day is a flurry of fan activity and last minute adjustments by the teams. The drivers are preparing themselves for the potential danger that awaits them on the fast speedway.

This doesn’t magically happen, of course. Months of preparation goes into getting ready for the show. As I write this, I’m sitting in the infield while inspections are happening. Go with me behind the scenes…

Before a racecar can take to the track, there are a series of tests that car must pass. Each car is scrutinized for weight, height, tire pressures, engine specs, spoiler specs, fuel cell specs and the list goes on and on. These behind the scenes checks are necessary for safety and for good competition. Most people will never see this side of racing, but it is vital to the integrity of the sport!

Anyone can tell you that waiting is a huge part of the inspection period. Cars line up early in the morning. Since Daytona is the first race of the year for ARCA, the inspections tend to take much longer than at any other point in the season. Let’s just say that race day means “Go, Go, Go,” inspection day means “Wait, Wait, Wait.” Before the “Go” is the necessary “Wait.”

The same is true for the ministry of Redline Racing. The ministry at the track includes lots of getting to know people. This is probably my favorite part of the weekend. Doing this part of the ministry enables me to discover specific needs and opens up avenues of prayer. Race day features a chapel service and praying for each individual driver before the start of the race. What does the preparation look like on the “unseen” side of the ministry? Let me be upfront and tell you that hours and hours of prayer and asking God for wisdom in ministering to this group of people. It’s important to have a clear focus from God to know how to present the Gospel to anyone. So, I especially do this in my responsibility to the ARCA Racing Series. I pray that each conversation turns into an opportunity to let people know just how much God cares for them. I won’t bore you with details on service preparation, travel preparation and fundraising so that Redline can even be at the track. But I’m sure you can imagine the detail that happens with this part of the ministry.

I talked much about waiting…that happens in the ministry as well. I’m sure it even happens in your life! The Waiting….

I’m reminded of the Scripture in Isaiah that says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40: 31 NKJV

The behind the scenes waiting produces the ability to Go! God is looking for those who are willing to wait behind the scenes and gain wisdom, direction and integrity. Take time to do the behind the scenes work and wait!
